The 33rd Annual NACBA Awards

NACBA (National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys) has a long-standing tradition of acknowledging the contributions of its members and key allies who go above and beyond in helping our association achieve its mission. This year's 33rd annual NACBA awards were held at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to honor the remarkable contributions of its members featuring attorneys from the Law Offices of John T. Orcutt. These awards (Outstanding Young Consumer Bankruptcy Attorney Award, Champion of Consumer Rights Award and the Extraordinary Service Award) serve as a beacon of recognition, highlighting the extraordinary work that embodies the core values of NACBA.

OUTSTANDING YOUNG CONSUMER BANKRUPTCY ATTORNEY AWARD

The Outstanding Young Consumer award recognizes a bankruptcy attorney with fewer than five years of practice who has shown excellence in consumer bankruptcy, achieved a critical milestone, or was recognized for a special achievement. This year’s winner is attorney Hector Quesada. Hector was nominated by attorney Ed Boltz, managing partner of the Law Offices of John T. Orcutt. Hector Quesada has wholeheartedly embraced representing consumers in bankruptcy after previously working for a debt collection law firm and clerking for a bankruptcy judge for two years. He not only tackles the regular complexities of bankruptcy law but has also successfully handled multiple stay and discharge violations, ensuring justice for debtors. Hector’s dedication, skill, and advocacy make him a rising star in the field.

CHAMPION OF CONSUMER RIGHTS AWARD

The Champion of Consumer Rights Award was presented to attorney Erik Martin. Martin was nominated by attorney Brian Flick, managing partner of Dann Law of Ohio. Martin has focused his practice on pursuing relief for stay violations, discharge violations, and violations of Bankruptcy Court orders. Erik is not afraid to challenge Bankruptcy Judges to fully utilize their authority to hold creditors accountable, even in the face of resistance. In the Eastern District of North Carolina, where he is one of the few debtor attorneys taking on these complex cases, Erik's tireless advocacy and commitment to protecting the rights of debtors make him a standout in the field.

EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE AWARD

Ed Boltz is the 2025 recipient of the Extraordinary Service Award in recognition of outstanding leadership, dedication, and vision of NACBA. Boltz has been a driving force behind many of the association’s greatest accomplishments. His tenure as NACBA’s President from 2013 to 2016 was characterized by unwavering dedication, strategic vision, and a tireless commitment to advancing the priorities of our members and the consumer bankruptcy community. Furthermore, under Boltz's leadership, NACBA achieved significant milestones, strengthened its advocacy efforts, and expanded its reach, ensuring that consumer debtors' voices were heard and supported at both the state and federal levels. In conclusion, Ed Boltz service has continued to be invaluable as he remains an active and engaged member of NACBA’s Board of Directors illustrating his ongoing commitment to the association’s mission and purpose.
